Where the money goes
As a community of people dedicated to making the lives of people infected with and affected by HIV healthy, dignified and future-focused, FOTAC-UK devotes all of its time and resources to supporting treatment, treatment literacy, and advocacy programmes both in the UK and in South Africa through the Treatment Action Campaign.
Donations amounting to more than £147,000.00 have been sent directly to TAC’s operations in South Africa. This money is spent on treatment through supporting the TAC’s Treatment Project.
5.5million people in South Africa have HIV. Approximately 400,000 are on treatment. A further 530,000 people require immediate treatment. With the scale of this problem and continued delays in government health service delivery on HIV and AIDS, much more is needed to provide access to treatment and save lives.
In 2006 FOTAC received Comic Relief funding for an ambitious treatment literacy project in eastern South Africa, and continue to fundraise for major projects. As a result of this successful campaign, entire communities are now receiving treatment.
More is needed. FOTAC’s operations are sustained through the goodwill of its UK supporters, providing the lever for the TAC’s access to increased resources for their lifesaving work.
Education projects in the UK about HIV and the AIDS crisis in southern Africa are also undertaken by FOTAC in schools, colleges, businesses and trade unions. Sustained lobbying and advocacy on the public health issues that face the region is conducted by our members and experienced volunteer trustees.

The video follows the Treatment Action Campaign (TAC), an HIV/AIDS advocacy organization, which has held its own government and big pharmaceutical companies accountable to the interests of the South African people.
