I became interested in the work of TAC and FOTAC after studying about them in my Human Rights MA at the University of London. I was so impressed by the difference TAC was making in the lives of everyday South Africans that suffer from HIV/AIDS that I decided to apply to be a FOTAC Intern.
FOTAC is only a small charity so I was able to get really involved in the core of the work that goes on here. I have worked on the development of the new website, lobbying the South African High Commission, fundraising for Treatment Literacy Campaigns and the general day to day running of a charity.
The friends, patrons and officers at FOTAC have all been really approachable and helpful, and the experience I have gained has been invaluable for both my studies and future career. I'd highly recommend volunteering at FOTAC whether it's to learn new skills or to benefit the organisation with the knowledge you already have.

I graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2004 knowing I wanted to be involved in the HIV debate in South Africa. I thought volunteering would be a good place to start, so I saved up, applied to intern at TAC and flew to Cape Town.
My experience at TAC made a massive impression on me, and on returning I've taken up a career in campaigning. I joined FOTAC this year once I moved to London. It has been great to be involved, and I've found everyone to be friendly, welcoming and appreciative of my time. I am given lots of responsibilities and my ideas are listened to and taken on board. At the same time, it is great to gain experience at such a well respected organisation and helps in a very competitive sector. It would be great to welcome more volunteers at FOTAC, so if you can offer time and skills, get in touch.

Imagine a book written by some of the best fiction writers in the world: Margaret Atwood, Woody Allen, Gunter Grass, Arthur Miller, Gabrielle Garcia Marquez, Susan Sontag, John Updike... What if that book were edited by Nobel Prize winner, Nadine Gordimer?
