FOTAC Patrons - Annie Lennox OBE

Annie Lennox OBE
As one of the world's finest and most outstanding musical voices, singer songwriter Annie Lennox is celebrated as an innovator, an iconoclast, and a symbol of enduring excellence. Born in Aberdeen, Scotland in 1954, Annie first came to international fame in the 1980s as part of the duo Eurythmics. In the 1990s, Annie embarked on a solo career beginning with her debut album Diva (1992), which produced several hit singles. She has released five solo studio albums and a compilation album, The Annie Lennox Collection, in 2009. She is the recipient of eight BRIT Awards. In 2004, she won both the Golden Globe and the Academy Award for Best Original Song for Into the West, written for the soundtrack to the feature film The Lord of the Rings : The Return of the King. Hearing Nelson Mandela describe the African HIV pandemic in 2003 as genocide, with women and children as the frontline victims, was a turning point in Annie's life. In 2007, she consolidated her activism into the SING campaign, an organisation dedicated to raising funds and awareness for women and children affected by HIV and AIDS. In 2010, Annie became an official UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador.
Statement of support
It is scandalous and absurd that a virtual genocide can go pretty much unchecked and unacknowledged by the world at large. The scale of the problem of HIV/AIDS is pandemic and utterly critical. Urgent action needs to be taken to prevent the devastation of future generations, but it seems as if the world is in denial. We desperately need to find ways to create effective changes in order to tackle the extent of the situation. Education, prevention, treatment, and perhaps even....cure!? We can no longer afford to stick our heads in the sand. As an ambassador for the 46664, a woman and a mother, I am honoured to join hands with FoTAC to make my contribution in whatever way I can.
